Does organic really work?
It is a common misconception that organic products do not have the same potency as products made with chemical additives. However, natural ingredients have been used throughout history for medicinal purposes and the mere fact that their use remains so widespread, today, internationally is evidence enough for us. The debate is often a matter of personal preference; however it is comforting to knowing that Fair Beauty products come from nature, and not from a laboratory.
Despite being natural, the ingredients in Fair Beauty products are still treated with the same hygienic care as with the production of chemical products. LOPPA has also obtained certification from the Japanese Ministry of Pharmaceutical Health to acknowledge its hygienic practice.
All Fair Beauty products boast the potent benefits of nature. To make this claim, unlike many producers who under law only need to certify that 10% of their ingredients are natural or organic, Fair Beauty is strict in its approach that all the ingredients used in our products are 100% natural, and organic where possible. Fortunately for us, Laos is rich in natural resources, meaning our products are not only 100% natural, but also 100% Lao.
There is, however, no official body in Laos which can administer organic certification for cosmetic products. To avoid the substantial costs of seeking this certification from an internationally recognised body, ASE and LOPPA have approached local actors such as the Lao Ministry of Health’s Food and Medicine Department, who have tested and certified that the ingredients in Fair Beauty products are largely organic, and 100% natural. LOPPA has received similar certification from Japan’s Ministry of Pharmaceutical Health.
Recipes
The methods for producing our products have been revived from traditional Lao recipes used for generations. From his travels through Laos and internationally, Mr Khamsing has tried and tested each recipe until he feels it reaches the very best possible quality. This process is fluid, and Mr Khamsing feels there is no limit to the improvement of his products.
Production
In the interest of environmental sensibility and authenticity, LOPPA employs old fashioned, hand-made methods of production. This means that production capacity can at times be slow, but it never means a sacrifice of quality. For example, each herbal massage bag is hand-wrapped, taking around 10 minutes to produce; each of set of soap requires two weeks; and each batch of shampoo can take up to four weeks to complete. Products are then hand-packaged by LOPPA employees.
Some procedures, such as the extraction of essential oil from raw ingredients like coconuts and sesame seeds, require the aid of machines. LOPPA uses four different machines for such procedures, including an oil extractor and filtration system, a grinder and a dehydrator to prepare the dry mixture for the herbal bags.
